Foreign activity

In 2007, foreign trade of the region totaled $27.6 million, up 57.5% from 2006. Exports amounted to $22.8 million, up 46.8% from last year (the target was 14.8%). Imports totaled $4.8 million, up 2.4 times, which was well above the target of 7%.

The CIS countries account for 80% of total exports, with Russia taking a 98% share.

According to the estimations, the trade surplus will total $18 million (the target is $15.1 million).

The Luban cheese-making plant is the regions’s major exporter, accounting for 70% of total exports (80% to Russia).
